目前， MID 平台上大多都是采用的Linux 操作系统。当然 Ubuntu 这个桌面用户最多的一个发行版也在跟进这一领域，Canonical 公司刚刚发布了 Ubuntu8.04 Mobile Internet Device Edition ，该系统就是专门为 MID 开发的。

由于Linux操作系统在节电、响应速度以及价格等方面都非常适合移动互联设备(简称MID)因此Midinux得到了众多的国际和本地的软件厂商支持，比如intel asus等等。这也使其成为MID领域的标准开发环境。目前有更多的多媒体应用软件和互联内容已经或正在向这一平台进行迁移。包括导航、VOIP、即时通讯、证券、电子交易、3G通讯、络游戏、办公软件、手写输入等大批国内外知名软件被移植到MID平台上。
